Totally different genre for me but worth a try. I am still not convinced if I will try book 2 but this was a tidy well written piece. Trouble is so many other books I want to read I dont know whether to keep investing my time in this series

I love a good family drama mixed with action and magic. This book was slow at times but I could tell that it's setting us up for something bigger in the next books (hopefully).

it was good but not the best. it seems we should only care about No Peak's success just because the main characters are part of the clan. will continue the series to see what's up. hopefully the overall story arc will make this first book worth the read

The world building of this book is phenomenal. It is sprinkled throughout the book at exactly the right times. Also, the action descriptions are too tier.

Of all the fantasy mafia books I've read, this one absolutely does it the best. Incredibly suspenseful and masterfully plotted. Every line served a purpose- Fonda Lee knows what she's doing.

I put off reading this for years because it sounded more action/thriller-y than I'd prefer, but it's Lee's stunning and nuanced characterization that made this so gripping and memorable.

Honestly, with all of the romantasy focused books, it's been a while since I read something so squarely fantasy.  I went into this book excited to read an urban fantasy novel, and Jade City was such a refreshing read with a cool magic system.

This book strikes a great balance between plot and character. While I don't love any of the characters, I am invested in the choices they make and how their decisions impact the family and the city. There are also plenty of other enjoyable elements, the family drama,  external family feuds, and the city's underground wheelings and dealings. Looking forward to book 2!
