an interesting book. took a bit of focus in some parts and others were riveting. glad to have read it though
I was curious what this was all about as i think we all know about the controversy surrounding his Mahound "prophet" writing but I was amazed with all the outlandish supposed happenings. Such as those Indian gentlemen who fell from the stratosphere when the airliner blew up. Also that butterfly Haj, the lady with the fallen arches who climbed to the very top of Mount Everest and the temporary mutations of those airliner survivors into a goatlike being and an archangel with a halo. He is obviously gifted in crafting verbal exchanges in the manner of those from India and inserting topics such as American popular tv series.
It provided me with many hours of bizarre Entertainment.

The writing was excellent, as were those cultural and historical references that I caught, but I have to read this book again, as much of it was just over my head...

I actually read this to get a better idea of Islam's beginnings.
I loved the writing in this book. I loved the difficult nature of his text. I understand that some people, some very literary people, despise his incessant amount of detail. I think it works, and works marvelously. This book is an experience and I found it wonderfully captivating.
I loved this novel. It was compelling from beginning to end with the wit of both dickens and umberto Eco along with plenty of sharp observations. Rushdie also wove seemingly disparate characters and narratives into a natural and seamless whole.
I really wanted to like this book with all of its history but I just didn’t understand it. Very hard to follow.
