This book is clearly a masterpiece. Rushdie's prose is beautiful. I just can't give an adequate review because so much of it went over my head.
In 'The Satanic Verses', Salman Rushdie tells a poignant story of migration through the eyes of Gabriel and his companions. While the main narrative is compelling, it's often overshadowed by dense subplots and what feels like Rushdie's private jokes, making it a challenging read at times. Despite this, the book offers a thought-provoking exploration of identity, faith, and cultural displacement.

Obvs so much of this is so problematic and listening to the bbc podcast “fatwa” was useful supplementary learning alongside reading this. Of course, lots of powerful wordsmithing from Rushdie but although much went over my head due to lack of Quranic knowledge a lot of this felt very crude..
Just re-listened to this, loved it again, and am gonna listen once more. There's so much to take in.
I love diving deep into a book, and looked for discussions of this one. Online, it's dominated by discussion of the fatwa and debate around blasphemy. But it's so multilayered, I wanted to dig into the relationships between the various subplots. So... If anyone wants to engage on that aspect, pleeeeeeaase leave your thoughts in the comments!
