I have a soft spot for Maggie and this book didn't disappoint in providing more insight into her character. My only complaint is that it seemed skimpy, details were somewhat lacking, and it ended too abruptly. I especially would have liked more development of her relationship with Gwen and something about her husband's reactions at the end. We know their marriage ended, but I think that as a final scene would have wrapped it up nicely. I really enjoyed it, but I'm greedy and wanted more. Overall, it was Alex Kava doing what she does best.

I had started the Maggie O'Dell series years ago but fell off somewhere along the way. Decided to start at the beginning with this prequel. It was nice having an overview of the characters and I will be interested to see how it fits with the rest of the series

Agentka specjalna FBI Maggie O'Dell już od jakiegoś czasu pracuje jako konsultantka przy zabójstwach. Szczególnie tych bardzo okrutnych lub z podejrzeniem seryjnego mordercy. Jej umiejętności zyskują jej coraz większą renomę, a co za tym idzie - jeszcze więcej próśb o pomoc ze wszystkich stron kraju. Do tej pory wszystkie sprawy badała jedynie na podstawie przysyłanych zdjęć i dowodów. Jednak jej przełożony postanawia, że Maggie powinna w końcu zobaczyć miejsce zbrodni na własne oczy. Nie przewidział jedynie tego, że pierwsze morderstwo, w sprawie którego O'Dell będzie brała bezpośredni udział będzie aż tak okrutne. Ani tego, że ktoś inny będzie ich w obserwował na miejscu tamtej zbrodni. Ktoś, komu zadawanie bólu i zabijanie sprawia przyjemność. Ktoś, kto będzie chciał uczyć Maggie jedną ze swoich ofiar i w tym celu nie cofnie się przed niczym.

It was great to read about how Maggie O'Dell started out in the FBI as she turns up in the Ryder Creed series by Alex Kava. Wouldn't mind reading more books in the Maggie O'Dell series but unfortunately my local library doesn't have many of them.

Oh, it was really great to first meet Maggie, and watch her deal with this investigation, since this guy seems to really have affected her!

I enjoyed the book. The story and timeline flowed well. I would give it four stars but there were dozens of printing errors, which is distracting. Otherwise, I would recommend it to those who enjoy psychological thrill.
