It’s You’ve Got Mail without the 1990s charm. Plot twists seen from a mile away. Has moments where the side characters (Tisha, Maya, Tony, even Nyota) are more fun than the main pair. Rue is Bones from the show of the same name, but somehow doesn’t annoy me as much as Dr. Brennan does. Eli is an obsessed stalker without the stalker part; except for one passage where he is so filled with rage that he’s two steps away from suddenly being a psycho killer. Eli basically falls into instant obsession with Rue (eww - also red flag despite him being called sweet later). They sort of have banter but Rue feels like a robot so the banter seems like it’s missing something. There is somehow a lack of emotion on Rue’s part - is it just due to her tragic backstory? - and while she and Eli have a lot of things in common, the only thing that literally brings them together is sex. There is also a lot of telling and not showing; perhaps that is the best way to cover their backstories with each other but the only thing bringing them together is sex. I don’t know; ultimately they feel like they make sense together but it also feels like there is something missing. Maybe this feeling is because the emotional backstory moments didn’t really elicit any deep emotion in me while I was reading. Also she doesn’t know how to pet a dog? (Though I regularly mush my dogs faces between my hands and tell them how cute they are and how much I love them so maybe it’s just me.) And yeah, she didn’t want him to “fix her” with his magic **** but that still happened anyway. 🤦🏻♀️ It’s not as problematic as it could have been but… 🤷🏻♀️ Ultimately it’s fine, but something is just missing and I can’t tell what it is.

Esta novela tiene mucho sexo y el argumento no está mal. Me faltó la tensión entre los protagonistas porque desde el capítulo uno hubo sexo entre ellos y entiendo que esa es la premisa de la historia. Pero no pasa de ser entretenida, ningún aporte a la literatura. Lo que más me llamó la atención es que la mayoría de los personajes eran ingenieros químicos ( mi profesión), lo cual es poco usual en literatura, aunque está autora se caracteriza porque sus protagonistas son del mundo de la ciencia.
