This grew on me more and more as I read it. At first it felt slow and I get the little bit of slow burn is great, but it was slow for me in a different way. Then, when it started to pick up, I liked it more and more. I loved their connection and how their relationship grew. The last few chapters made me smile and I am happy with how this ended.

Blah
A fan of neither narrator but Carrie Dalton is really terrible imo. It’s like listening to AI - zero inflection. Robotic.

And Eli barely stepped away from being a one note character. Okay, bro, we get it. You want to F Rue anywhere, any which way for infinity.

Again, blah.

Not in love. I started this book right after „a problematic summer romance“ (which I really liked) got to 70% and now remembered that I started it.
I just wasn’t really invested in their story. I didn’t care for the harkness/kline drama. And neither for rue and Eli. They were okay characters but somehow boring. And I didn’t like that rue was avoiding dates with Eli.

“Your damn mouth,” he murmured, “is the most obscenely lovely thing I’ve ever had the burden of seeing.”

6 stars!!! Another banger, and one of my favorites from Ali Hazelwood. I read this on vacation last year, and I enjoyed this more because I could take my time with it. Rue and Eli are one of my favorite couples ever, and one of my favorite Ali couples.

Characters-10

Oh boy, the characters in this are fantastic. I love Rue's journey in this book, and how she finds love at the end of the story. Her personality is great, and not one that you see a lot in books. Eli is a gem of a book boyfriend, and I love him! The found family element of this is fantastic, and I loved it.

Setting-10

From the inside of the labs and houses, so the outside streets, Austin Texas comes alive in this book. I loved every second of the setting in this.

Writing-10

Ali Hazelwood is a fantastic writer. Ali puts a great combination love fun, and emotional depth n her books. Not in Love is no different, and takes the emotional depth to another level with Rue and Eli because they both have pasts they haven't talked about. Loved the writing in this.

Plot-10

I loved the story. There was a mystery, and I loved seeing the story unravel. This was a plot journey, and I loved seeing Rue and Eli learn the secrets about those they trusted, about themselves, and about each other. Eli lived with his sister, which I loved.

Enjoyment-10

As you can tell, I loved this book. A new favorite and one of my favorite books of the year. Love Rue and Eli.
