Essential Reading for Open Source Leaders and Managers
A great primer on various methods of contributing to and funding open source. It is refreshing to learn many of us struggle with the very same things and consider the successes from various projects.

I'd say it's a worthy read. The book draws many parallels and tried to apply some models, which I don't always agree with. But there are some very interesting points when shifting to the "produce" side.

It's a little hard for me to say just how interesting this will be to folks outside of the world of open source software, but I suspect that if you are interested in markets and economics, public goods vs. common goods, relationships between big online platforms and online creators, etc, you will enjoy this. It is extremely relevant to my day-to-day life and I have seldom seen someone write about what's actually going on in technical communities with such insight.
It's also a really beautiful physical book.

A fun overview of open source development--lots of good reminders of where GitHub started and where it is today. Some interesting reflections, but not a lot of new thinking or good ideas--just descriptions of the challenges and general quotes on where some people are thinking of going, but the book lacks a theme or some kind of guiding principle on what is the best long term plan. Basically, this could have used an IA review for authorial tone--with a vision one could agree or disagree and the conversation would be helpful. As it is, this is more a reflection on the things we all remember.

Nadia does a great job of explaining how open source works and the challenges it's facing today in a very accessible manner. (Disclaimer: I'm quoted in the book multiple times, got a free copy of the book, and have spoken to Nadia directly on the topic of open source for her "Roads and Bridges" white paper.)

Lacking structure but a decent introduction to the world of open-source software and the background work that goes into maintaining them.
