March 2024-sister book to the Code Girls by Liza Mundy. Read for the March meeting of the GVL book group.

Mundy's great at this kind of multi-decade history of governmental roles for women book, but this was so bleak. I both applaud and feel sad for the women who put up with the sexism and career-blocking that is/was rampant at the CIA. Between that and the unfortunate reality that delivering data on threats to a nation's security involves sounding like a Cassandra while being right on big things like 9/11, there's a lot to make it hard to sleep at night in here.
Valerie Plame's write up in Foreign Policy makes it clear this is a common and concerning pattern.
