The precursor to Sailor Moon and Usagi we have Code Name: Sailor V which started off as a one-shot story about Minako Aino.

You can really feel the serialisation in these first few chapters as Naoko has to reintroduce us to the concept of the character at the start of each one. That fades quickly though and we quickly get hints of the bigger story that's going to be told with cameos of Usagi in the background.

Naoko's beautiful fine lines in her artwork are present even here. However, if you're looking for detailed action scenes beyond calling out your attack while posing you're barking up the wrong tree.

This time I decided on reading Sailor V's manga. I have to say I much prefer Sailor Moon's manga over V's. That mostly has to do with the stupid police stuff that keeps happening and the annoying men (again the policeman but later on his just as annoying brother). But also Artemis is just a tad too much for me and I just wanted him out. He kept talking in public while he was complaining about Venus... hello? Hypocrite much? I didn't find him fun at all. I wish he just had been open about things from the start instead of how he kept everything secret. If you want cooperation.. maybe spill the beans.
But I did have fun reading as Minako/V is such a fun and playful character who loves cute boys and idols and falls head over heels with each new hottie. We see her try to live her life and in the mean time also kick some series dark butt. I loved seeing her get better at being a Sailor Guardian and become stronger and smarter. I loved the outfits she choose when she needed to transform but couldn't right away.
Also Grecian rug??? Those are clearly hieroglyphs from Egypt. Either a bad translation or the mangaka doesn't know hieroglyphs.
Next up is Vol.2!

This prequel to Sailor Moon is goofy and silly but lots of fun. I especially liked the police chief who is a closet Sailor V fan. A lot of the villains are typical and non-distinctive from each other but they end up adding to the fun. Plus, the splash pages/chapter art are rather gorgeous. A good few Sailor Moon characters show up in this as well. I can only hope that as the series progresses, its connections to the main BSSM series will deepen; still, it's a good read and Minako is the kind of spunky, fearless heroine readers love in mahou shojo (magical girl) manga.

I hate to say this, but I think I prefer this arc to the intro sailor moon mangas :o

This was my first time reading Sailor V and I absolutely adored it!

It was so much fun reading the story from Minako's POV and getting to know her.

I especially liked:
- the similarities between Minako and Usagi
- Minako's enthusiasm for video games and popstars
- the bickering between Minako and Artemis

Soo excited to read Volume 2!

It was nice getting into Minako's world. It was cute to see how Artemis came to Minako before Luna came to Usagi.

It was a fun time and gave me that fun nostalgic feeling of watching Sailor Moon. I've been a fan for a long time and it was just a warm feeling. It's nothing fantastic or ground breaking, but it's a fun time! If you want to see some magical girls and some teen girls having teen girl problems then have fun reading this!
