DNF’ing this one. This book has such an unique format but unfortunately it’s impossible for me to keep focus. Read till about halfway then just skimmed through the rest of it. Too many characters and the ending was what I predicted starting the book...

I had high hopes for this book but it’s just not grabbing me at 24%. I kind of like the format (includes interviews, texts and articles ..) but can’t help but think it would be impossible as an audiobook. This book was recommended to me but I’m not drawn into the story. Too many characters investigating the crime and it just isn’t holding my interest. DNF.
mysterious

I’m such a sucker for weird, epistolary formats. And there was a mid-book twist that was so good I was literally reading with my mouth agape. I wish the ending had tied back into that element more, but I get what the author was going for and I had a great time.

So many people it could have been, so many plots. Oof. Actually could have left some of them out to make it flow better. It wasn’t like whiplash but it was sort of like television which is the point. Sometimes hard to follow/keep up with characters and plots but the writing had me really wanting to know who the heck did it

I couldn’t get into the “cold-case revival TV show” narration device. It made the story feel impersonal and convoluted. I could also tell that no research was done on the various ways people speak English outside of the UK. You just can’t put British turns of phrase into the mouth of an American character. Why bother having an American detective join a crew of English detectives if not to offer and explore cultural differences as a way to move the plot forward?
