Mira Grant does a great job jumping into the Alien universe with a YA novel set on a colony world, with the main characters, Olivia and Viola, twin sisters of a pair of traveling xenobiologists. The characters in the story are really well drawn out and developed, and the Alien creatures providing the level of terror and mayhem as good as the original movie (the best out them all). Ms Grant stays true to the universe and the YA genre, putting Olivia and Viola through increasingly harrowing circumstances right up until the last page, and like the movies, we know it isn't over for them.

This was enjoyable. It leaned pretty heavily into the YA aspect of it during the set-up, but once it got into more traditional Alien territory I thought the set-up paid off.

I checked this book out of the library because I was looking for another book named Alien and the cover on this one was interesting. I did not know there was a series of books based on the Alien movie world. I might have to check out some of the others. And I will definitely be looking for more by Mira Grant.

This was really good. I always like books that let you choose what happens next. I'm an optimist, so I'm going with they get rescued and everybody gets healed up. However, I'm not much for romance, so Kora and Olivia don't last. Neither of them can stand seeing the other because it reminds them of all they have lost. Olivia and Viola are different because they share the losses. So they go their separate ways. After spending some time on Earth, Olivia and Vi decide to continue their parents' life work and start traveling to see different kinds of new life. Oh, and Zagreus gets nuked. Because that's the only way THAT gets solved. Eep!

Uodate: Well for goodness sake it's Seanan McGuire.
