Although it was enjoyable, it is quite a relief to finally finish this series. It's taken nearly 20 years!
This book, although a little over long, was a good conclusion (3.5 stars). The best thing was
Maruman didn't die! I feel like that was something I was expecting/dreading throughout the entire series. I'm glad the grumpy old cat made it :)

I didn't have really high expectations of this very long-awaited book in a fantasy series I've been reading since high school - but even my relaxed expectations were not particularly fulfilled. The pace was all over the place - it dragged interminably through the first half as Elspeth indulged in seemingly endless internal monologue, and then the ending thumped out of nowhere. I enjoyed seeing the story reach its conclusion, I liked seeing these characters again - but that's about it.
