I am so mad that I am just now finding out about this series. I am obsessed with it! Shea is one of my favorite heroines of all time. She is fierce and strong.. not because of magic.. but because she worked her butt off her whole life to be the best at what she does. She is a pathfinder. She can find paths.. I'm kidding! I mean kind of. She knows the beasts and the lands like the back of her hands. She can get the idiot towns people where they need to go. This is all fantastic. I love that she has a purpose that she trained and studied for but my favorite thing about Shea is how she refused to be ruffled by anyone. She lived in a town that hated her.. even though they needed her. She did not care. She did her job if they didn't listen, that was on them.
Whoa.. I could ramble on about her for awhile. I honestly loved her. Since this is already too long here is a brief review.
Shea goes to save the chief's son. Also ends up saving Fallon. Fallon goes all caveman on her ass but Shea says "Not today satan" and runs away. She evades Fallon a couple times but eventually gets caught. They have some smexy time and fall in love... to be continued

Shea isn't actually shown making enough mistakes to justify the criticism leveled at her by the narration, and Fallon is too much of a dick to justify their romance (the attraction and sex, sure, but not the romance we're supposed to believe near the end). Nevertheless, the book is a lot of fun.
Don't like the creepy romance. It feels a lot like Stockholm syndrom. In the first part of the book Shea is a grown independent woman, but in the end she just agree to do whatever Fallon wants which doesn't fit her character at allllll. She just accepts her place with the Trateri and that they have to conquer the high- & lowlands for no other reason than that is beneficial for them all, but why that is better isn't explained. The first 80% were great.

Would have been a 5 if it was a tad bit shorter and went a different root with the romance. But still loved the story.
