I love both the story, and the narrative performance.

this story had so much potential and then it just randomly got so rushed—the romance was so forced and i think shea should have just gotten to keep her own job instead of being forced to tie herself to that creep

the only reason this doesn’t deserve 1 star is bc i love shea

This is the first book that I've read from T.A. White and it's a good book to start with. Got the recommendation from one of my favorite authors - Ilona Andrews.

I liked this author's science fiction series quite a lot, but this dystopian saga in a future after a generic cataclysm, in a land dotted with small villages divided by mists, that only pathfinders can cross, thrilled me. To be precise, I started reading around 9pm and finished the book at 3am, early this morning, with no regard for my next work day, and since 4 more books follow this one, I don't think it will be the only time either.

I loved the fantasy and adventure parts... 4⭐ for that.

The romance was unoriginal and formulaic and left a bad taste. I didn't even believe their feelings for each other were legit. Plus 2 pornographic sex scenes (chapter 20 and the last half of chapter 24). The book ending on that bit of 💩 is the memory I'm left with🤮 and the deciding factor for my rating.

If it had been fade to black or closed door my rating would have been much higher and I'd continue the series. This author is very skilled & writes an amazing fantasy that I'd love to read more of... Such a shame they had to ruin it with smut

This could've been great. It could've been 5 stars! But it fell short

For the reasons why this book is great - SHEA OUR HEROINE. She is hilarious, smart, brave. She's flawed but she's relatable. I loved her so much. The world building was incredible. All the characters introduced had depth and were interesting.

What was lacking in this story was the romance. This was frustrating because the set up had so much potential. Shea running and hiding from Fallon was so entertaining. But eventually when she gets caught, it's so anti climatic. Fallon doesn't even catch her. He gets lucky that one of her villagers out her as the woman he's looking for. It's also a little unbelievable that she stays in the same camp with him for months but he doesn't recognize her. If he had recognized her immediately after saving her from the revenants, this would have been a much more satisfying story.
