The Bird in the Window is a novella centering around three different women. There's Ashley, a busy nurse fresh off a divorce, who becomes entangled in the thirty odd year mystery of a retired cop's missing wife and daughter. She shares her suspicions with best friend Patience who mentions that the eccentric former art teacher, Sally might have some details of the past. All is well until Ashley's poking around starts to open old wounds and she becomes the target of threatening letters. There is someone in the neighbourhood who doesn't want her unravelling old secrets.

This was a terrific novella, although I did end up wishing it was a little longer as the story unfolded, It's a great mix of thriller and romance - even though the latter isn't really my thing in stories, I didn't feel it was overly gratuitous or that it took away from the story in any way. Sally's point of view was honestly my favourite part. It was great seeing her from her own perspective rather than her neighbours.

If you want to fit in another read before the end of the year,  I'd recommend this one. Its a quick plus that ending is going to wow you!

I love this story!
I obviously can’t do a long review of this book because it is very short.
In this book, you follow Ashley, she’s a single mom and has a feeling about a certain neighbor and she talks to her friend Patience about it. And she wants to find out what’s up with that neighbor and she goes asking around.
Sally is another neighbor who lives in this neighborhood for a long time now and Ashley goes to her with questions.
You also read a POV with Patience and Sally but most of the story follows Ashley.
I see this book as a mystery romance story but don’t want to see more because I don’t wanna spoil it!

Thank you so much @blackthorntours for providing me a gifted copy for an honest review!!

Mystery lovers this short novella is for you! Ashley learns from one of her neighbors about a 30 year old cold case that happened in their neighborhood. It involved a missing mother and daughter. Well Ashley had a strange intuition about this and had to gather more details. She spoke to the neighborhood gossip and found out that she thought the mother and child had been murdered!
Ashley soon gets threatening letters, telling her to mind her own business.
Being acutely aware Ashley and the other two ladies try to play detective to figure out what really happened to the mother and child.

Mixed with a little romance, this thriller/mystery had a nice surprise twist at the end.
Definitely worth the one sit read and it’s also a perfect way to sneak an extra book to reach your year end reading goals!! I only wish that it would’ve been longer.

Grand Story!

I love reading for authors that I've discovered yet. I'm so glad that I'll read any genre, especially since I have the opportunity to find hidden gems. Dalrymple pens a grand story in The Bird in the Window. In this story, the bird, is actually a macaw, and its arrival lends to the plot of the story. The title intrigued me, and I'm honored to have read Dalrymple story. The plot has a lot of layers as well as an interesting cast of characters on Ridge Road. The book is one of those keep-reading-until-you-finish stories, and I enjoyed this one very much. The thrills and intrigue is written clearly and the characterizations are engrossing. I like the mix of suspense and romance, and obsession. It's clearly a recipe for a good story. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. I will definitely read this author's work again. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.
