I don’t always mind a predictable plot, but wasn’t too keen on the writing. Possibly beach read worthy. I kind of skipped through it - didn’t feel like just not continuing reading it, but also wasn’t pulled into it at all. My main problem is how perfect the main characters are, the relationships are very shallow and one dimensional. Some parts are questionable in my opinion, especially while discussing Katie’s past. It is not explored why she behaved the way she did, she was just “wild” and now she is “better”.

Not Quite Mine is the second book in the Not Quite series by author Catherine Bybee.

This is my second read by this author. While I enjoyed the first book in the series, Not Quite Mine fell a little behind in the delivery. The characters were okay, but Katie was a hard character for me to enjoy. It seemed like every choice she made -- while they could be justified somehow -- seemed the opposite of what she should do. Some of the reasons for her choices just didn't fly for me. Why all of the secrets? Just come clean with it and let the people you are concerned with deal with your actions in their own way.

The flow of the story was well paced, and again the side characters were enjoyable. I still enjoyed this read, along with the previous book, but just not as well. I am still interested though in reading more in the series and the authors back list as well.

I'm swooning guys.
Forever swooning.

I loved everything about Dean - he was the perfect southern gentleman who had his heart broken by the one women he has ever loved: Katie.

Katie and Dean had a perfect secret relationship, until one day it wasn't perfect anymore. Katie, who is also Jack's sister, had a miscarriage and didn't really know what to do with her life or how to have Dean in it anymore. So of course, she walked away. She was hurt and needed time to heal on her own. However, you easily fall in love with her spunky attitude.

I shipped the hell out of Dean and Katie. Plus, throw in a mystery baby and you've sealed my fate. I was head over heels for these two. I didn't really like Dean's ex Maggie, who you sort of know about in the first book. You finally meet her and find out how she plays into this whole mysterious situation in the book. I still don't like the girl but you can't help but feel bad for her since she knew that Dean would never love her like he loved Katie. It was also Katie for Dean's heart - no one else.

I still loved everything about this book and the epilogue made my heart pitter patter even more. I can't wait to dive into the next book in this series!

This was not quite as good as the first book. I don't know what it was about this one that rubbed me the wrong way. But there was something that just felt off to me. I don't know if it was because you could see the outcome from a mile away or that it felt like a million years to get there

FINALLY READ THE ONLY BOOK IN THIS SERIES THAT ISN’T ON KU. WHY CATHERINE BYBEE WHY

I say all that to say that I enjoyed it. It was like a nostalgic look back into old friends. It’s not life changing, but I read it all in one sitting which is better than I can say for most things I’ve been reading lately.

A wedding, a baby, secrets upon secrets, old lovers reunited, and another marriage all wrapped into one amazing book. This book is about Katie but starts with Jack and Jessie’s wedding. After the reception a baby is left on Katie’s doorstep. She’s confused and scared to love the baby and for the mother to come back. She rushes back to California, keeps the baby a secret and hires a private investigator. In the mean time she’s working as the interior decorator at Jacks new hotel that Dean is building. Sparks begin to fly between Katie and Dean and it’s only a matter of time before they become something more. Once Dean finds out about the baby he hires is own PI. With a fairy tale ending this book brings out all the love.

This is an erotic romance featuring a brother's best friend and his sister. I will admit I am an absolute sucker for these kinds of stories having grown up with several brothers and crushed on many of their friends. This one is no different. Katie Morrison is a rich girl and former reality TV drama queen. She and Dean, her brother's best friend, begin a passionate secret love affair that ends after a tragedy. They are together again in Jack's, Katie's brother, wedding. I fell in love with both characters from the beginning. They were both honest about wanting to be together and had off the charts chemistry.

Dean was determined to win Katie back. I was frustrated with Katie's character because she was so challenged in her ability to communicate and made emotionally charged decisions based on abandonment issues from her past. This fit with her issues but I wish she would have opened up more often and sooner rather than later. Her fear of rejection was at the heart of the relationship problems. A beautiful baby girl left by her door complicates everything. Determined that this time would be different Dean's perseverance pays off and they journey together to their happily ever after.

The plot had several twists on the predictable ""baby left at the door"" scenario. It kept my attention and the characters were very well- written and realistic. They weren't perfect people with perfect families but they had strong bonds and the emotions were raw and real. I can't wait for the next book in the series, but each book can easily be read as a standalone.
