I don’t usually do memoirs, but I really enjoyed this. I bought the book on a whim when visiting Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival, having previously never heard of either it or the author before. Once home, I discovered I could reserve the audiobook from BorrowBox, and ended up listening to it, but I am so glad I bought the book, as I know I’ll want to sit and reread it - I may actually listen to the audiobook again before it has to be returned.
Lovely book about the joy of reading and the pleasure and strength it can provide in even the darkest moments.

Perhaps the only book I have ever read in my life that has genuinely made me want to run out and buy a copy for everyone I love.
That’s Christmas sorted, then.

"Reading has saved my life, again and again, and has held my hand through every difficult time. Now, if I start to fray around the edges I know I need to reverse out of watching the news, deactivate social media, curfew myself on technology and banish all devices from my bedroom. I need to get in the bath or go to bed with a book."
