This was wonderful, a lovesong to reading and talking to people about books. I always find it refreshing to read about people who are from poor backgrounds, worked low-paying jobs most of their lives, and are avid readers. I really related to it, although I'm no extrovert. I also loved how enthusiastic it is about re-reading, especially as we are about to embark on a re-reading event on booktube (Cathy would surely love our corner of booktube). I love a lot of the books she mentioned and picked up a lot of recommendations too, anyone who praises the Cazalet Chronicles multiple times in their book is a friend of mine.

I prefer to listen to non-fiction but since this had so many book recommendations that maybe wasn't the wisest choice. But the narration done by the author was also very comforting and easy to listen to so I will just look at the mentioned books later.

I loved how the author told her story by telling the reader her favourite books and how they affected her. I especially loved her dialogues with her son. (the one where she says she loves him more than every book she read was so sweet)

This book was a breath of fresh air that had me relating to ten author. I emailed the author my thought and for the first time received a response! A book that was really to the readers, loved it!

RATING: 2.5 STARS

Dear Reader is a fun book for any reader. I rated it a 2.5 stars because while I agreed with some of her picks in this one, I also wanted more from it. So maybe by "any reader" I mean one that has not read everything they can lay their hands on. It is also popular well known books, so again they appear on many lists. I wish there were more endearing connections between the essay portion and the list.

LOVED this book. Initially was a bit taken aback by the "recommendations" chapters, but I came to appreciate it and all in all I adored the way Rentzenbrink writes. So much of how she expressed herself spoke to me and conveyed how I feel about reading, speaking with others about books, customer service, and so much more. Made my soul happy and made me feel seen <3
