She’s the manic pixie dream girl, that he can’t tame into a compliant wife, without her feeling like he’s poisoning her very essence. And her desire for him to be someone else is killing his desire for the relationship. This poem is beautifully written (ofc, it’s Deborah Levy) with seemingly random prose, that under deeper investigation provides a deeper meaning on contemporary relationships. I really enjoyed this and it’s angelic and heavenly symbolism.

I reread this twice (it’s very short) because I genuinely did not remember what happened once I finished. I think it was fine, it’s just not really for me. It's a story in poem form and it really was not that entertaining or interesting to read.

I always feel like I’m not quite smart enough for poetry. This was really good but I can’t quite tell you why. I loved the concept, the writing was great - I’ll probably have to reread it a few times to get more meaning but overall it was a great palette cleanser.
