It was nice to be back in the world of Nina Hill again. Waxman’s books are perfect for the Gilmore Girls generation.

4.5! A feel good story about how weird and terrifying being an adult is.

Right off the bat I will say: while it isn't required to read to enjoy this book, I definitely recommend reading The Bookish Life of Nina Hill before diving into this one. You won't be too lost if you don't, but you will definitely encounter some spoilers for that one if you read this one first, so I just wanted to make sure to mention that lol. Now that I've gotten than PSA out of the way, this was so lovely!! This one had a very similar vibe to Nina Hill, and it honestly makes me hope that Abbi Waxman continues to publish more and more books following the bevy of side characters we meet in this series (???? I don't see that this is being marketed as a series but it *feels* like a series lol) because they're all so dynamic and interesting in their own rights. Anyway tldr: this book was a delight and I definitely recommend checking it out if you're interested in reading a delightful little Los Angeles-based story of love and found family!

✨Read The Bookish Life of Nina Hill first✨ not a direct sequel but you will understand characters and background better.

Adult Assembly required is a fun, easy to read, contemporary romance with friends to lovers trope. Laura is a recent arrival to LA after healing from a traumatic car crash and nothing seems to be working out for her. Lucky for her she comes into a book shop and meets Polly and Nina (From the bookish life of Nina Hill) who help and get her back on a new track.

I really enjoyed this read and found it to be more than just a simple cookie cutter contemporary romance. There are enough different relationships and dynamics going on to be very interesting and more full bodied than many books in it's genre. I remember enjoying The Bookish Life of Nina Hill as well and was pleased the characters made a comeback in this companion book, making me want to re-read that book again too. While there are some common characters I definitely do not think you need to read them in order. Overall this was a fun read and I would recommend it. 4*

This was a good contemporary stand alone. It wasn't action packed or fast paced, but the characters and situations were interesting enough. I would consider reading another book by this author.
3 steps for growth.
