I’ve read many of Abbi Waxmans books. This one isn’t one of her better ones, sadly. It felt so long and drawn out to get to what you knew was going to be the conclusion.
I do love that it brought light to mental illness and how it affects everyone differently. I love the new group of friends that Laura made after moving away from home and how accepting they were of everyone.
Other than that? It was a very long romance. lol

I’ve been enjoying Abbi Waxman’s books lately because, although often predictable, I find them quite charming and warmhearted. That is exactly what I look for with my summer reading. I particularly love the smart, funny characters that Waxman creates – especially Nina Hill and friends – and so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they appeared in this book

I love the world of Nina Hill! And Abbi Waxman’s spinoff Adult Assembly Required is everything you need it to be! Charming, thoughtful, and filled with friends!
DNF around 50% there were so many characters that I kept getting them confused especially all of the female names that stared with L. I really tried to finish this book since I really enjoyed The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, but I just couldn't get into this one.
2.5 stars. Funny and amusing, but not quite what I wanted. What drove me crazy about this book was the need to reiterate the characters’ personality traits and preferences, making them seem like they were such individual characters … but they all spoke in exactly the same way! Kind of silly and rambling. I think this would have benefited from eliminating half of the characters - maybe that would develop the story more. It didn’t seem to go anywhere, and I’m not a fan of plots that centre around miscommunication. Also, it drove me nuts that hardly anyone used their phones - when they did, they were calling, not texting. And Laura had to get directions to a library - ever heard of Google Maps? I’m being nitpicky, but I just became more annoyed as I went. I liked Nina’s book, and I would probably read a Polly book, but doubt I’ll check out any others.
I really liked this, but still don’t feel like I can give it more than three stars. I want a more nuanced way to judge what I read that doesn’t require the effort or commitment of like, bookstagram.
