I picked this up on a whim, a little worried it was going to be run-of-the-mill heterosexual but still wanting to read it. I was pleasantly surprised by a cute book with a romance that is not reliant on a miscommunication, and other things to the plot besides said romance, which felt refreshing. The initial plot was a little confusing because I unintentionally read this before its prequel, but I figured it out. The darker themes to the story were well-handled, if not a little heavy-handed and dramatic at times, especially by the end of the book, and the trivia plot went nowhere besides tying the book further to its prequel...But I still think about it after 4 months, and that counts for something.
I LOVED the first book, and despite listening to all this in a day (the baking side hustle waits for no one), this didn’t really do it for me. I liked the characters, story was ok, just something didn’t quite click for me.

4 ⭐️ it’s rare for me to read something that just completely resonates — and I can’t tell you exactly why this does but it just made me feel really good reading it. The “found family”-trope, importance of therapy, and the humor all just struck a cord. The characters are vibrant, the humor is sharp and the story just makes you feel good.
Considering The Bookish Life of Nina Hill was granted 5 stars by me, this one was a flop in comparison. This is the type of book I should have been able to read in a few days but it just didn’t excite me.
I just couldn’t get over that his name is Bob?? Apparently the most attractive gardener dude and his name is BOB?? Horrible.
If he’d gone by Rob, Robert, Robbie, or even Bobby I probably would have given this five stars instead of four.

haha. I didn't realize this was a sequel until just this second. so I have not read the first one.
this was a cozy, chaste romcom and I really enjoyed the characters and narration style. especially the descriptions of what the animals were thinking. During the first half I was thinking 4 stars but it ran out of steam and was a little longer than it needed to be. still a fun read.

3.5. Very cute. Sweet. Like a hug. Didn’t love the way they did the ex.
