Yall. What a book. I’ll be honest, I was a bit skeptical going into this, but excited at the same time. I’ve only read a few Pam Godwin books, but I’ve loved every one of them. I’m not really a dark romance girly, so there laid the subject of my skepticism. I’ve tried to read dark romance before, but they just haven’t been for me. So, I wasn’t sure if I would like this going in.
Additionally, I believed this to be why-choose before actually reading and I am also not a why-choose girly. I was glad to find out that it wasn’t a why-choose after reading. Basically, this book was everything I wasn’t a fan of so I didn’t have high hopes. However, I knew that if someone could make me like dark romance and why-choose, it would be Pam Godwin.
This story was absolutely bananas. From page one, I was hooked. I definitely feel like this is a character-driven story considering there really isn’t much opportunity for a plot besides the beginning and the end.
The story follows Frankie, who is married to a billionaire and lives on a private island where you need boat transportation to leave or visit. One day, she tells Monty (billionaire husband) that she is pregnant and he does not receive this news well. After the poorly received news, Frankie decides to leave him. But before she can even leave him, BAM. She is kidnapped and taken by a man she's never met before. This man is named Denver. He is a horrible psychopath of a man who takes her to a secluded cabin out in the Arctic. Frankie is taken to this cabin as a gift for his three grown sons: Leo, Kody, and Wolf.
This book is beyond dark. As I said before, I am not a dark reader, but this sure as heck is dark. You should absolutely look up triggers before reading because some of this stuff is absolutely insane. This story is heart-wrenching, heavy, and dark. I think Pam Godwin did a great job at making me feel uncomfortable which I feel is one goal for dark romance.
I loved these characters. They made the story for me because, as I said before, there isn’t much of a plot throughout. Most of all, this is a story of survival. I wouldn’t call this a love story at all. These characters are forced together through a means of survival. Sure, they find connections in the meantime, but the main focus of this story is survival.
These boys have been through so much and I just felt so much empathy for them. I’ll let their characters stay a mystery, but I just wanted to say that these characters made the book for me. I loved Frankie too. She was such a great main character. So strong and determined to defend the boys in any way she could because no one else ever had. First she was the friend that they needed and then she turned into something more for each of them.
The only reason I took one star off was because the story did drag a bit toward the middle. I felt myself wanting something to happen, but not at the same time. If something did happen, I knew it would probably be something bad, so I was totally conflicted.
Overall, I can’t wait for the next book. Especially after the ending of this one that literally left my heart in a goopy mess. I’m excited to see what happens in the next book and how these characters get out of the mess they are in. Again, I would definitely check out the triggers before starting just to be on the safe side. I applaud Pam Godwin for making me like a dark romance book but I also applaud her for the feelings this book elicited out of me. I haven’t felt this way for characters in so long, so I can’t wait to read about them again and experience these feelings again.

What the fuck did I just read. Dark, suspenseful, and exciting story. I'm obsessed and broken after that ending.
Only negative comment I have - I hate the way she treats Wolf throughout the entire book.

This one is dark and definitely read trigger warnings but if you like Pam godwins other books you’ll like this one.
