The actual fairy tale part of the story did not seem to start until about 2/3s into the book. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a great job. What I feel like is the meat of the story took a long time to come to fruition. Then, Alice's journey is reviewed more than actually lived and experienced. For a fantasy built with fairy tale elements and a Alice in Wonderland twist, I expect a more immersive experience. My curiosity of what happens to Alice and the residents of Hinterland as well as Finch will drive me to check out book two eventually. The tales Albert built the narrative on sound more enticing than the actual novel. Plus, description of Tales from the Hinterland states it has illustrations, and my enjoyment of Grimm fairy tales smiles at that.

3.75. I really enjoyed this book, it kind of reminded of House of Hollow. It was a classic dark, twisted fairytale vibes story. I wish there were more stories of the Hinterland, those were some of my favorite parts. The lore behind the story characters was so fascinating. There very little romance, which I was fine with. I just found out theres a second book and Im very interested to continue on with the story!

At about 70-80% I realized that I just didn't care about what happened in the rest of the book. Googled the summary and I don't regret putting it away

I feel like this book started out great. It really pulled me in and was actually a bit creepy. I enjoyed it! Somewhere in the middle it took a turn though. It almost felt like it could have been a completely different book. The time jumps were very long.
It’s a shame because I think it was really interesting at first!
