The premise of this book sounded great and reminded me quite a bit of the Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers. However, I never managed to become emotionally invested in any of the colorful cast of characters that travel on the bioship 'You Sexy Thing'. Missing emotional engagement didn't make the stakes very high for me. I kept reading because I was moderately entertained, but if there's a sequel, and the end of the book gave hints it might become a series, then I don't know if I would continue. I liked it alright, and that's the most I am willing to say here.

I did enjoy reading this, but I spent the whole time waiting for the captain’s brilliant strategy to happen. And it just… didn’t? Idk, maybe I’m just too deep in trope hell to appreciate a more realistic story where there’s nothing to be done when a psychopath wants you to suffer. But I loved the world-building and alien design, and I liked a lot of the characters and their motivations.
