It's been a while since I've been so disappointed with a graphic novel. The art is unique, reminiscent of Sergio Aragones and is definitely work checking out but for some reason I just didn't click with this book.

As far as I can tell, this story is outside of regular continuity. As the title suggests, it's a Alice in Wonderland meets Batman story - yes, another one...

Long-time fans will know that the Mad Hatter is a recurring character in Batman's rogues gallery; Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee have also made regular appearances in Gotham and lately there has been a White Rabbit villain. It's fair to say that Batman has already tramped the fertile grounds of Lewis Carroll's most famous creation. As if that wasn't enough, Grant Morrison's classic graphic novel Arkham Asylum relied upon Carroll's work heavily so it's hard to discuss this book without comparing it to AA... unfavourably.

This cross-over should have worked so much better. Sadly, the messy narrative accompanied by the messy artwork shows a complete miscomprehension and disregard for Carroll's original 'Wonderland'. Drawing upon Alice in Wonderland simply appears to be an excuse to regurgitate a nonsensical, scarcely thought out narrative with two-dimensional characters; a narrative in which Batman is absolutely out of place.

A ridiculous quick read. Batman's expressions are hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

It's probably not a Batman classic but for an Alice fan like me it'll be a favorite. Enjoyed both the story and how the style of the artwork created a "through the looking glass" feel in comparison to the other Batman graphic novels I've read.

Couldve been worse. Given what the author was trying to do, it's a very hard concept to nail. I'm a little biased because Mad Hatter is one of my favorite Batman villains, but overall, a good book. My main gripe is the characterizations of Batman, Robin, and Alfred are entirely unlike their regular portrayals. I definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick, weird Batman read!
