This book was a struggle for me to get through, compared to the other three I have read in the series so far. It honestly felt like a lot of filler and nothing too incredibly exciting happened through 900 pages. I think 3.5 stars would be a more appropriate rating, but it always hard to judge Diana Gabaldon against her other books. If I was comparing this to another author, I'd probably score it higher, but when compared to Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, it falls way short of what I've come to expect. I think you can look at how long it took me to read this book to get a feel for how boring I really thought it was. I demolished Dragonfly in Amber in about 1 day while this book took nearly a week.

I did enjoy some aspects of this book. I loved when Jamie and Brianna were reunited, even if I do find Brianna kind of annoying. Roger wasn't much better. While I obviously do not like Stephen Bonnet, I did like what his character added. The guilt that Jamie feels for letting him live and the final consequence of that decision was intriguing.

Claire, Ian, and Jamie were very enjoyable, as was expected. I would have liked to see more of Fergus though. :(

I will probably never tire of Jamie and Claire’s story. They aren’t perfect, but the way the love each other and work through their flaws and problems and I just love them so much. And I am beyond happy that Jamie and Brianna got to meet and be together. Jamie deserved it. The only flaw was the Bonnet story. I would like one novel in the series where That doesn’t happen, please and thank you.
