A mix of fantasy, sci-fi and horror with a heartfelt story. The mis-matched settings and world building elements somehow all work together to add to the messages. Cool art style with a simple layout and good use of colour, so I found it easy to read.

This was a fun, fast paced read and I would recommend it.

We’re following Nimona, a young shape shifter who wants to become the sidekick the the villain Lord Ballister Blackheart. Succeeding in this, they set out to uncover the dealings of the supposed goodies Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his crew at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics. As small battles become bigger, Nimona’s power and past are revealed as well as getting some backstory with her and other characters to how the feud began. I liked the queer representation in this graphic novel, the messages portrayed and was an enjoyable read. The artwork is good, I think I prefer it little less harsh (think heartstopper) but was still pleasing to look at. The  medieval and futuristic elements were intriguing but also confusing at times. Love to check out more by the author!

This was a delightful quick read/listen. The audiobook was really well done and highlighted the humor of the story. I'm definitely going to hunt down a copy of the physical book for a reread. Nimona is a chaotic character full of energy and mischief and I hope we get more of her energy one day!

The story starts with Nimona signing herself up to be a villian's sidekick but you'll have to decide if its Lord Ballister Blackheart or the  Institution who is the real villian.

I am making my way through the huge pile of graphic novels from the library and I feel like I've been on a roll - I really liked this one, and it had been on my TBR for a while, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I love that it is funny and modern, but also set in a medieval fantasy setting, but that setting is also incredibly modern (just no guns). I love the relationship between Nimona and Blackheart, and my good aligned heart loves that he's not ultimately a villain, but it was the Institution all along. The pace of the book is also really well done, and I wish there was a continuation of Nimona's story afterwards.
I also think this is a great first step into graphic novels if you haven't read a lot of them, but do enjoy funny stories.
