Okay, the premise? Amazing. I was spooked out and hooked just from the summary on Goodreads.

Definitely check the trigger warnings before reading this one… because this one was A LOT to take in.

First off, the first chapter made me really angry. Like, really really angry. And the fact that this was based on a true event that happened? Oh my. I actually skimmed the chapter because I was so disgusted by it… it was sickening and disheartening to read.

There were some other graphic scenes throughout the book that I felt uncomfortable with but was so invested that I just had to keep going to find out what happened.

Also, that ending.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am providing my honest feedback.

We are all too attached to our electronics and many are too concerned with their social media presence. One social media influencer has no idea the level of recognition her online following has brought her. Jennifer Parker and her family take a vacation to a secluded off the grid yurt in the Montana mountains. What they find in the mountains will forever change their lives. Five people go into the mountains…..but how many will make it off the mountain alive?

I gave it 3.5 stars because it was a little repetitive in the descriptions of some of the characters. In a we get it can we move on now sort of way. The book should also come with a trigger warning for sexual assault, kidnapping, and violence. I’m not triggered by these things but it does tackle some sensitive topics. The ending felt a little to neatly tied up in a bow for my personal tastes as I know that justice is rarely ever served in these types of cases. Don’t get me wrong I applauded along with the characters but still it lacked in believability. Overall a fun read and it definitely kept me wanting to know where the story was going. I think since the author employed the multiple POVs it would have been interesting to include a POV of Hoffman’s activities but I do understand it may have taken away from the suspense of the storyline.

I didn't much like this book, but on the other hand, it was very gripping and I was desperate to keep reading - it was probably intended to be uncomfortable and a bit unlikeable to read, so really, it hit the mark. I loved the characterisation of Jayden in particular, but I thought all the kids were very well-written. 3.5 stars rounded down because I'm not sure I'd recommend it to many people.

When Alex first mentions
SpoilerJennifer her family to Paul, it gave the impression that they might have all been dead, which was very clever misdirection
.

Thanks BookSirens for this review copy!

SpoilerI'm now feeling much more on edge about the scratching noises I hear every day in my loft...

This book!
Okay so Jennifer Parker is an online video influencer, I immediately thought of YouTube. Her and her kids by ex-husband,Connor, and her boyfriend of one year, Tyler decide to take an off the grid trip. This trip is meant to let everyone unplug and enjoy family time and nature. Things go south really quick when the family is terrorized by a psycho!!
It's an isolated thriller which is my new favorite trope. It's creepy and hard to read at times due to the violent content. The pure hell this family goes through smh. Geeze. The book is well worth the 5⭐️ and the ending is amazing!

A spine-chilling read! This book was terrifying in every sense of the word. With a plot that makes it seem as though something like this could never happen, the author is so talented with their writing, you can believe something like this could actually happen. A little fast paced and rushed at times, but overall I loved how we had a solid storyline to follow and I do feel like it was wrapped up perfectly.

There were so many times in this book where i thought "oh my Gods this is when they all die." This book took my on a rollercoaster and although i was able to guess certain plot points during the book i did not guess the ending. I enjoyed this book a lot and the ending was great. I would definitely read more by this author.

4.5 stars!! This might be the book that will give me nightmares on some nights-- this book gave me cold shivers!! fast-paced, action-packed, creepy forest atmosphere? What more could you ask for in a thriller!!

I had fun feeling terrified while reading this book. I was so focused on the story, the buildup was tense, and the suspense was terror-stricken. Waiting for what might happen on the next page was itching. It was so addicting my brain could not stop reading!!

I appreciate that the author prepared a page with trigger warnings, and please make sure to look at it before deciding to read this book. There were scenes in this book that were dark and disturbing. I loathe Paul to the core. He is probably the most psychotic A-hole I've met (in a book). Also, I noticed that the author emphasizes mother's love in this book. Jennifer represents all the mothers out there- trying to be the best mom to her three kids despite the trauma they're facing. I feel bad for the kids, having to live with the most distressing history ever.

My only complaint is only in a few chapters. 75% in. It was a bit draggy after the Parker family's encounter with a bear. Some chapters after that were a bit slow as compared to the other expeditious chapters. I was glad the thrill started to pick up at the end. And I was super SUPER satisfied with the ending.

This is one of the books that I will stick in my brain for a long time. If you love a fast-paced, stranded, creepy, disturbing thriller, this one is for you. and again, make sure to check out the trigger warnings!!
