Beautifully written but very sad overall. The kind of characters that stay with you for a long time, if not forever.

This. Book. 😭

This book was heavy, heartbreaking, triumphant, and really just overall so good. Such a necessary story for all to really understand what happens in lower income areas as well as the opioid crisis. This was hard to read, challenged my thinking, and had me rooting for demon in such odd ways.

TW: drug use, overdose, child neglect

Beautifully written with an excellent fully realized main character - a bit of a drag plot-wise in the middle but I guess that’s part of the point

Some incredibly beautiful descriptions in there, never felt out of place or flowery just matter fact

Dinging half a star because I don't like the end.

Hefty but unlike most long novels it didn't sag in the middle and no part felt like it could have been taken out.

DEMON COPPERHEAD is the book of my heart. The voice of our protagonist Demon is so strong through this text–even with a meandering plot through Demon's childhood and adolesence his perspective is quite frankly so compelling I found it difficult to put this 500+ page book down. I'll be thinking about the characters Kingslover has constructed for years to come. Be prepared for heartbreak and a story you'll never forget.
