this was obviously a Gruesome read, but it was also a lot of fun

is the writing pretentious and self-serving? sure, but so is our narrator - it makes sense

I thought this was...just fine. Maybe it had been oversold to me before I got a chance to read it. I get the whole maneater thing, and the bit about the friend, Emma, was pretty interesting, but overall I found the writing to be pretentious and formulaic. It was longer than it needed to be by 50-100 pages.

There was a bit about Dorothy being straight but enjoying awakening other women? Idk it was weird, and if more was meant to be alluded to there, it fell flat. For me personally, I did not get much out of reading about a wealthy psychopath straight white woman and her wealthy friend and her wealthy lovers/exlovers. I did appreciate the author's commitment to taking on the main characters tone.

the casual, "fascinating" rape scene was absolutely unnecessary.
after the fourth "labia-pink" color description, I couldn't roll my eyes far enough back in my head

A bit tired of the cannibalism theme tbh, so maybe this just wasn’t for me. I liked it well enough, but I often found it overwritten and with an over reliance on cliches. Some genuinely very clever and funny lines. Over time the narrator’s voice grew on me - the commitment to the arrogant psychopath tone is nothing if not consistent - and then it became repetitive and drawn out to the point of boredom. Weird to read a book about psychopathy and cannibalism and feel like it’s mundane. I think you could shave about 50-100 pages off this and it would make for a tight, compelling novella.

Listen I'll be honest this was a TOUGH read

I understand wanting her to be pretentious and awful and what have u but please give me a break

I honestly was having a terrible time until like 80% when it all started coming together (or falling apart I guess)

I appreciate the book for what it is but the writing is really hard to get through
