Saw this book on many lists - had really high hopes. It just didn't quite work, couldn't imagine it really keeping a child's interest and could be a good readaloud if the reader was exceptional.

Beautiful writing, settings and narration in the audiobook that we listened to on a long drive up north. Sort of felt inspired by The Velveteen Rabbit.

beautiful, heartwarming read about love - perfect for getting out of a reading slump. Just as magical as I remember from when I was a child, and a reminder to hold your toys close.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
5/5
This is easily the best book I've read this year. It is a quick read, I managed to read it in a day, but oh my goodness is it poignant and impactful! Although the story was fast paced, there was so much character development and lots of well developed side characters. The story was gripping, structured like a fairytale but possessing so much heartbreak and realism it's almost haunting. As for the messaging there was an overall message that was a good moral but I do believe there were other messages more subtly woven into the story as well. Edward Tulane is such an interesting character and watching his evolution is thoroughly enjoyable. There was a lot that surprised me about this book and lots of plot twists I didn't see coming. I think the biggest surprise is that this didn't feel like a children's book, despite the synopsis, due to the maturity of the events in the book and its themes I'd definitely recommend it to an older readership. I do wish certain storylines had been given slightly more closure but then the ending we got was so perfect I can't imagine a way to remedy this. Overall I'd love to re-read this book at some point, but I need some time to emotionally recover.

Stunning, aching, beautiful, rich, whimsical, and utterly charming.
