Honestly, the second book didn't really sell me on Wes' character so I was hesitant to start this but just like he did Bethany, Wes eventually won me over.
Bethany Castle is me and I am Bethany Castle. And we both don't really want to admit it's true. I tagged this as "perfectionist girlies" and I meant it. Bethany is one trough and trough and that's exactly why noone ever thought to come closer and see who was hiding behind that mask of perfectionist — until Wes showed up.
He's really not in this thing for the long haul, he just wants his sister back, so he can stop stepping in for her to care for niece but he quickly gets attached to not only his niece but the first real family and community he's had in his life, people he's become truly close to, and reading that was just so, so beautiful, especially in combo with the epilogue.
Wes is truly the boyfriend all of us perfectionist girlies can only dream of. I'm not going to turn this into my own personal therapy lesson but some of the scenes really had me tearing up.
You know that tweet that's like "the real reason you love enemies to lovers is because you want to believe that someone's who's seen you at your worst could still love you"? That's this book.

Wes' sister was in the foster system like him and he tells Bethany he's sure she had it worse than him due to being a girl. The things done to her are implied to be of sexual nature.thaliareads's review against another edition

This is one of my favorite Tessa Bailey books that I've read to date. I love how both optimistic and yet realistic this novel was. While Bethany and Wes had an undeniable instant love connection, they both had real world issues to consider. Wes is now acting as the guardian of his niece, there's a very real age gap and suspected maturity gap between the two characters, and Bethany wants to prove herself outside of what Wes is contributing to the flip.
For a romance novel, the pacing and resolution are realistic, giving the characters the time to discover what they truly want and need and who they are in their new roles in life.
I'll need to get my hands on my own copy so I can have this available to read at all times!
