OKAY WOW. I was worried this book would fall into “middle book syndrome” where it gets slow and boring and just sets up book 3. It was anything but! Jude and Carden both had fantastic character development, and watching the politics and intrigue of Faerie play out made it un-put-down-able!

Okay I just finished this book and I have never wrote a review before but this book has gotten so deeply in my system that I have to write me thoughts somewhere! The Cruel Prince must have been titled after how Cruel Holly black was to her readers. The Wicked King for how WICKED she is to her readers. Her writing and world building has sucked me into the characters life, and the tension KILLS me. Going into the Wicked King I thought, for certain, that the tension that she built up inside me in The Cruel Prince would be wondrously released and I could finally breathe! BUT NO! The Wicked King pulled me in deeper into the world and the characters, and the story TEASED me! It teased me so relentlessly, so wickedly throughout the entire book. So now I’m sitting here, mind whirling, barely able to contain myself from all these feelings that this book sparked inside of me. And all I have to say now, is that the finale of this series better be wondrously, freaking spectacularly amazing And satisfying to this unquenched thirst the author has certainly thrust upon me or Holly Black will be officially the biggest tease in my life! (As of yet) How long must I wait to get satisfaction from this sloooooow burn sexual tension in this series?!

I rate 5 stars because a book that affects me THIS MUCH, deserves nothing less. However, this rating reflects the knowledge that the story continues. I am going to NEED an ARC for the next book like I’ve never needed a book before! That’s for certain!

I have so enjoyed this series. Overall, the writing style seems more telling than showing, but the world building, the magic system, the political intrigue— such a great time! The tension is excellent & I’m so stressed out. I’m absolutely burning through this trilogy.
