I've read Miss Rumphis numerous times. The story is always as fresh as her flowers.

A gorgeous little picture book. The illustrations are stunning, and the story feels comforting and sweet without being saccharine.

When she was young, Miss Rumphius promised her grandfather that she would do something to make the world more beautiful. As she travels the world and makes her home by the sea, she finally figures out what that thing is - spreading lupines, a type of flower, everywhere.

I really hope those flowers weren't an invasive species and I cringed a little when she traveled and met the king

I don't normally log Children's books on here. Maybe I should - yearly reading goal of 1000, let's go! In this case though, I had read an article in The Atlantic about Miss Rumphius, and it sounded lovely. I added it to my 'Want To Read' list here so I wouldn't forget about it, as I do. And now my oldest is old enough to appreciate it, or at least least patient enough to sit through it, so I picked it up. Turns out, it is indeed lovely! The art is striking and beautiful. It's my favorite yet from the many picture books I'm encountering these days. The story is a sweet, simple one about following your dreams and making the world a better place. This was a worthy addition to our family bookshelf!
