Oh my god.

Oh my god.

Whenever a book comes out that has so much hype behind it, I fear how I’ll react to it. I’ve had pretty bad reactions to Illuminae and Six of Crows in the past, and this was even further out of my comfort zone: YA contemporary, fantasy and sci-fi.

But once again, I’m stunned. This was amazing.

There is one word that perfectly sums up this book: real. This book was so real. I could see Daisy Jones and The Six, their performances, the fights, the fashion, the hotels. It all felt so real, and I honestly don’t understand how the band isn’t on Spotify for me to listen to “This Could Get Ugly,” “Aurora” and “Honeycomb” on repeat.

Trust me, the hype may be extremely scary around this book, but I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Daisy Jones and The Six is a new all time favourite and I need to read more from Taylor Jenkins Reid stat!

Another slay by Ms. Jenkins Reid. I ended up loving every character and thought they were all well utilized. I didn't get confused with so many POVS like I was scared of, and was refreshed by the format.

I half-read/half-listened to this one and it was a fabulous audiobook with a full cast.

I didn't love the characters, but I give a ton of points for the fact that I kept forgetting this wasn't a real band.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
It's so cool how Taylor Jenkin Reid can just create these indepth storylines that genuinely make you forget the Daisy Jones and The Six are fiction. I really enjoyed this book, I love how it's set out in a manuscript format so you can everyone's perspective going on without it feeling rushed or non-cohesive. Camila is definitely my favourite and how 'the author' is tied in at the end made me smile so much. Even though the ending made me feel sad, I think how everything was connected makes the book worth reading. Love it!!

While this book was so hyped, I tried to keep my expectations at a reasonable level. The last Reese pick didn’t sit well with me so I didn’t want to set a high bar for this one.
Reid did a great job making you feel like it was a real band. It took a lot of reminders to myself that this is still a work of fiction.
The interview/timeline layout was fabulous. There was a lull about 3/4 of the way through, but definitely push to the end, it’s worth it.

If you haven’t listened to the audio - DO IT!!

DECEMBER 2022: Reading this felt like watching your favourite band's film doco and I LOVED IT! The writing format, the band's song lyrics being featured at the end... so original and it felt authentic in ways I didn't expect the book would. Obsessed with Billy and Daisy's sexual tension and journey together (screaming/projecting/theorising!!!) especially after the ending. I can't wait to see them portrayed in the show, plus hear all these songs brought to life!

FEBRUARY 2023: Everytime I re read this book I fall more and more in love with it. Incredible!!!!!

APRIL 2023: After falling in love with the TV adaptation and cast (RILEY IS DAISY!!) I wanted to listen to the audio book of DJATS and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. It added even more emotion to the words on page and I loved being able to take in the story in yet another format! DJATS has my heart, always. What a book, what a show, what an album.
