Pizza girl is eighteen, pregnant and working as a delivery driver. She's grieving the death of her alcoholic father, whilst also trying to avoid her supportive mother and boyfriend. She will do everything in her power to ignore her future and what it might hold. This is when she delivers a pickle covered pizza to Jenny, a middle aged mother, and becomes instantly obsessed with her.
This book is great. Frazier did an incredible job of throwing us into the crowded mind of our unnamed protagonist. I felt for her. At points, I felt like I was her. This is one of the best portrayals of mental health I have ever read. Frazier effortlessly depicts the rawness of her grief for her father and the anxiety she struggles with everyday.
This one isn't all doom and gloom, it's also really funny in parts, and full of heart warming moments too. After finishing Earthlings by Sayaka Murata a few days ago, I couldn't help but pull so many parallels between the two. The writing style and themes felt very similar, and I loved how they both took a turn a little over halfway through.
I highly recommend this one if you're looking to stray away from your normal reading with a book that is truly unique, and will have you flipping the pages as quickly as you possibly can. I honestly can't believe this is a debut, it was that good.
