Chad and Bailey

This book was a fun read. An opposites attract - college edition. I enjoyed the rivalry between the frats, the secrecy of building a relationship with the "enemy", and coming to terms with the fact you have fallen for one of the people you shouldn't.

This was a page-turner from start to finish. The characters, so completely different but perfect for one another, were wonderfully written and had personalities that allow the reader to connect with them.

Would I recommend this one? Heck yes!

Grinned the whole way through this.
The Romeo & Juliet spin was refreshing in a genre that's oversaturated with enemies to lovers.
Can't believe I waited this long to pick this up.

This book was a 'no thoughts, just vibe' book for me. Honestly, I have been in a reading slump, and when I saw this frat M/M book review on BookTok, I knew it would get me out of it—and this book did just that.

In, [b:King of Thieves|58896219|King of Thieves (Frat Wars, #1)|Saxon James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1634209378l/58896219._SY75_.jpg|92792653] by [a:Saxon James|19404191|Saxon James|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1642498003p2/19404191.jpg], we meet (via dual perspective) VP of Sigma Beta Psi Chad, and a new member of a rival frat Rho Kappa Tau's member Bailey. Throughout the book, we follow their secret relationship and follow their side friends, who are involved in the B-story.

There is VERY LOW angst, with very predictable characters (in their personality traits and arcs). I will say some of the 'conflicts' in the book are resolved too quickly to be understood (ex.
Spoiler Chad finds out Bailey is UBER rich, gets mad/upset, but then gets over it quickly
). Also, the side characters are VERY hard to follow. In other words, their backstories are very complex for them just being b-characters.

After reading some other reviews, I am glad I am not the only one who loved Chad while felt 'meh' to Bailey. While I was rooting for him during the whole book, he didn't develop as much as Chad did.

Finally, and this is because I WAS a member of the frat, I actually really enjoyed the 'King of Thieves game story. Not at all realistic, but it still captures the essence of being in a fraternity.

I am now reading book two, [b:Master of Mayhem|59541711|Master of Mayhem (Frat Wars, #2)|Saxon James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1645625563l/59541711._SY75_.jpg|93774869]!
medium-paced
funny lighthearted

This was a very mediocre reading experience for me. I thought the whole frat wars/pranks/hidden 'relationship' would be fun, but it wasn't for me. I expected the rivals to lovers and forbidden love tropes, but I kind of got secret relationship and lust at first sight instead. I didn't care for the frat dynamics, the other characters weren't interesting and Bailey and Chad (the main couple) went from lust to love far too fast.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!

It was so cute and the relationship between Chad and Bailey is just the best. One of the best m/m romances I’ve read in a really long time!

3.5 rounded down

I went into this one a bit hesitant, NGL. It had all the potential of the Jock/Nerd trope, which I am SO over, but thankfully it didn't quite veer into that territory, and ultimately I enjoyed it!

I like the characters, liked their connection, and thought the whole thing was quite hot. I appreciated the slightly silly Romeo and Juliet of it all, even if a lot of the book didn't quite feel realistic or totally believable. Bailey's family are apparently richer than God/actual billionaires, but this kid is totally normal and you'd have no idea he had any money at all for most of the book, and his whole family is super awesome and down to earth--sorry, James, I don't buy it. They're ostensibly in school, but there's basically zero studying/homework/classes (even for Bailey, who is supposedly a good student), Chad is at uni on a football scholarship but it seems largely irrelevant to his life, and the big prank drama somehow managed to be both underwhelming and ridiculous. The epilogue was very... weird and kinda pointless--I don't need a "10 years later" wrap up in which you tell us nothing of consequence except they're still together and have a dog? Which all sounds quite whiny and negative, but I really did enjoy this one--often when books fall in this 3/3.5 star rating it's hard not to focus on all the reasons I didn't give it a 4/5.

NGL, not super interested in the "pairings" being hinted at for future books, but I'll prob at least give the rest of the series a go.
