Woo boy, this instalment was a cracker though Dixon travelled so much in this book. So. Much.

SpoilerSuper worried about Jane. It really sucked that her birth mother turned out to be a druggie alcoholic who tried to use her as an ATM (if only for her awful boyfriend, but still). But then she died. It was so abrupt that I could barely muster up any sympathy for her. Felt bad for Jane though, for sure, but there definitely wasn't enough there for her mother besides pity. And man, I know people have to deal with the bad side of the internet for the greater good, but damn, there's just some things that people shouldn't have to experience.

I loved the convoluted story - characters who weren't what they seemed and the reveal, piece by piece. But how ballsy are you to be on the police force and a serial killer at the same time - I mean, Dexter did it, but still ballsy.

I wonder with Nixon's latest brush with death that he'll transfer to somewhere less kill-y. Really felt bad for Sexton, but no clue why he didn't just wait - if only... Sigh. What a waste, I was really warming up to him.

Another good entry in this series.  I listened to the audiobook.  I really enjoy the narrator.  Nick has his first case on his new task force.  It ends up being very interesting.  Jane continues to have problems in her family.  Nick is so supportive.    Nick works hard to solve the case employing some questionable means.  Of course, that means he angers some on the police force because he makes them look bad.  While others think he's great because he always solves the case even at the risk of personal injury.  Love this series.

Another excellent book in the DI Nick Dixon series. I very much liked the twists and turns all the way to the end. I also appreciated the treatment of Jane's interactions with her birthmother, as well as Nick and Jane's relationship. Both of these are in the background, but are still given weight appropriate to their gravity, despite not having a lot of 'screentime.'
