I finished this book and didn’t know what to do with myself. I even had a vague warning for the ending and it still wasn’t enough. This story was unlike anything I’ve read, you’ve burned yourself into my brain forever Richard Powers.

This is a story of friendship, politics, a love letter to the oceans and our planet, and a warning and awe filled account of the boundless potential of human advancement.

The characters represent ideas far bigger than themselves while still being intimately crafted and real on page.

The prose is lush without being fanciful and the story winds itself to the close without hiccups.

This is an incredibly powerful book and forces us to consider the dangers of our own curiosity.

It is an unflinching look at how we’ve failed our planet as well as a hopeful call to action.

In a word: wow.

2.5. I just am not sure what the point of this was. Not much happens and I didn’t connect with any of the characters. The descriptions of nature and the large role of nature in the story was the best part.
