A really, really strong volume! They covered the entire match into one volume, which I really enjoy. I am not the biggest fan of volumes that feel oddly paced, though I genrally can't really blame authors because you have to do weekly chapters. The Dumpster Battle was incredibly good. It shows the importance of having good team synergy. Nekoma might not have a big hitter, but they work well together. Hinata, once again, being blocked by how strong Nekoma is defensively, but instead of being sad, he feels pumped. He realises that though he has to work harder than ever, he sees possibilities. He is learning to do different spikes on the spot, and their team-work has to change. I adore that everyone looks at Asahi and thinks, sheesh, what is that adult doing here??? Noya is such a dependable teammate and I like how Suga is accepting that he might not be the main setter, but that Kageyama has to work hard to keep that spot. That despite being the spare setter, he still practises signals with other teammates. Hinata is an absolute sweetheart, being giddy to learn to work together with Suga. Just, a really solid volume, with a meaningful game, showing that teamwork is incredibly important, but that it also take a lot of time to build up that teamwork. Their team has some strong foundations, like Daichi, Noya, Tanaka and Asahi, but then you have Hinata, Tsukishima and Kageyama, who are all incredibly good, but still new. They never played together, have strong personalities, and Hinata is very, very much a newbie. We also officially have Ukai joining the team as the coach, wanting to take revenge on Nekoma's coach.
Disini pertama kalinya Karasuno angkatan sekarang latih tanding lagi sama Nekoma yang jadi musuh bebuyutan legendaris.
Latih tanding Gagak dan Kucing yang disebut-sebut orang dengan "Duel di Depo Sampah" selalu jadi tontonan seru.
Sejak jaman Pelatih Ukai yang lama sama Pelatih Nekoma janji untuk ketemu di pertandingan resmi. Tapi sayangnya impian duel tersebut tidak pernah terwujud hingga akhirnya Pelatih Ukai pensiun dari Pelatih SMA Karasuno.
Karena latih tanding Nekoma yang berhasil disusun sama Take-chan ini juga akhirnya Keishin Ukai, si abang2 penjaga toko yang ternyata cucu Pelatih Ukai yang lama, mau nyoba jadi pelatih Karasuno yang sekarang gak punya pelatih sejak Pelatih Ukai sakit (Karasuno cuma dilatih sendiri sama anak2 kelas 3 + punya Take chan si Guru Penasihat Klub). Keishin Ukai ini dulu juga alumni Karasuno dan ga pernah sekalipun tanding sama Nekoma, makanya di akhir volume 3 kemarin, kepancing banget dirayu sama "Duel Gagak vs Kucing" ini. Haha! xD
Dan akhirnya latih tanding Karasuno vs Nekoma saat ini benar-benar membuktikan bahwa Karasuno dan Nekoma memang terlahir sebagai rival sejati meskipun angkatannya beda dengan yang dulu-dulu.
Saya suka sekali gimana proses terbentuknya rivalitas antar pemain hingga pelatihnya. Juga persahabatan yang terbentuk antar pemain meskipun rivalitasnya tinggi. Membangun mereka semua jadi lebih baik lagi supaya bisa mengalahkan satu sama lain.

The Nekoma practice game is a favorite of mine because you see both teams start to change for the better. It's really sweet seeing how each can change for the better and be worthy rivals of each other.

I'm saying this like every review I write for Haikyuu isn't biased, but there's just something special about Nekoma and their relationship with Karasuno. This volume sets up the renewed rivalry between the two teams, and every team member has a counterpart that they're inspired by, on both sides. It's something I love to see—characters going up to each other post-match to rave about how amazing their rival was. It's all warm and fuzzy, and the Karasuno-Nekoma dynamic is unlike any other team dynamic in the series.

This set of stories was entirely based on an arc of improving the motley crew of Karasuno HS, and Nekoma HS proved to be an excellent match up for this. I loved seeing the dynamics between different characters play out, and there was a lot of humour that made me laugh out loud a few times. Right into the next book, I go.
