This book is kind of like a 3.5 star book for me. I couldn't really get into the book in the beginning, but the ending has intrigued me to read the second book. Hopefully it is more exciting and captivating than the first.

Such an epic, breathtaking book. I am now completely obsessed with the Seven Realms series.

For my whole life I thought I loved YA fantasy. Then, a couple weeks ago, I realized that I only ever read Tamora Pierce books over, and over, and over. As soon as I realized that I marched over to the bookstore to find myself a new YA fantasy author to read. This book is what I picked!

I really enjoyed this book, and will be continuing on in the series. The characters are well thought out, and I'm anxious to see where their different story arcs lead. The political nature of the world that Chima is believable and leaves room for lessons, which is one thing that I love to find in fantasy books. Well done!

3.5~ 4 stars. Slow paced but i can get past that because it is the first book of the series. Reisa was a joy to read the other mc was pretty likable too. This book got me out of a reading slump so extra points. The potential is there I hope it’s used to its full potential. The book relies heavily on its characters, there were some points in the book where there was no plot but I can get past that because again it is the first book in a series.

I read an ARC of this book.

I didn't expect to like this book. On the surface, it's just another fantasy with a princess who realizes not everything is hunky dory in her kingdom, and a boy-ex-thief who is trying to eke out a living among various political factions in her city.

And the "clan" that the boy thief intermittnely hangs out with was too uncomfortably close to native americans for me in the beginning. But then....it changed. The world built up enough for me that the clan stopped being a rip off and became a culture in its own right.

The princess didn't choose the easy romance, and the boy found out he is much, much more than just an ex thief.

In the end, this book hooked me because the characters made me care about what happened to them. I wanted to know when the princess would realize her mother was under thrall to the wizard, and I wanted to know how the boy thief would find his destiny.

It made me want to read more.

The world building is incredible! I'm so invested in the characters. It feels like they all have histories and we are just joining them for this moment in time
