I cannot wait to continue reading this series! This book took me a while to get through but nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cinda Chima writes such strong male and female characters that I cannot wait to see the leads paths cross more as I am sure they will!
This book makes me want to be a wizard. It seems cool, lol. I really liked the book and I just love Han and Amon! I really hate the Bayars I hope they die in the end of the series. I don't trust them at all. Omg! geez

This book was good, but I didn't really connect to it.
U mnie ostatnio „królował” „Król demon”, o którym ciężko powiedzieć cokolwiek, bo mam mieszane uczucia. Ale od początku, o czym jest ta książka?
Podzielona jest na dwie perspektywy – Han Alister, jako były przywódca gangu zmienia swoją drogę i w sposób zgodny z prawem postanawia utrzymać swoją rodzinę. Jest mu ciężko, a jedynymi wartościowymi rzeczami, które posiada są srebrne bransolety, których niestety nie może sprzedać, są z nim nieodzownie związane od zawsze. Wszystko się miesza, gdy wpada w posiadanie pewnego magicznego amuletu. Czekają go poważne kłopoty. Druga perspektywa należy do księżniczki Raisy ana’Marianny, po powrocie z gór, gdzie miała wolną rękę musi zmagać się z matką, która naciska na zamążpójście następczyni tronu.
Jak możemy się domyślać, z biegiem rożnych wydarzeń, tych dwoje w końcu się spotyka.
Książkę zaczyna się dość ciężko, w końcu to fantastyka i to z tych starszych. Lecz z biegiem wydarzeń coraz lepiej idzie się połapać i w końcu przez książkę się płynie. Czuć jednak, że jest to dopiero pierwsza część, początek serii. Bardzo podobał mi się klimat książki, mimo że czasami się nudziłam, czasami też miałam wrażenie, że fabuła donikąd nie prowadzi co zdecydowanie odbierało mi chęć do kontynuacji pozycji. Jednak nie żałuje lektury, tajemnice i różne poboczne intrygi wplecione razem z ciekawie opisanymi strukturami społecznymi bardzo mnie zachęcały do dalszego czytania. Raczej spodziewałam się wszystkich zwrotów akcji, jednak nie odebrało mi to przyjemności z czytania. Na pewno zabiorę się za drugą część!

I was a little nervous when I started this book since the Clan folk are pretty obviously based on Native American cultures and I was worried it would be really appropriative. I haven't entirely decided how I feel about it all yet but later in the book race is handled really well — the main female character, Raisa, is mixed-race, as are some other characters, and there's even discussion of whitewashing of historical figures. Plus there's a theme of matriarchy in both the queendom (yup, not kingdom) and the Clan camps, which is nice.
So far I like the romance, too, since there are multiple possibilities for Raisa but it's not a typical ~love triangle~ (in fact there are at least 3-4 guys so far!). Also, although she's supposed to be "pure" when she marries and it would be scandalous if people saw guys leaving her castle apartments, she flirts with/kisses multiple guys and it's handled in a positive way.
Most of the characters in the book aren't all that super unique for fantasy (the headstrong princess, the street rat with a heart of gold, the power-hungry wizard, etc.), but they're still likeable and well-developed. It takes a little bit to really get into the story, but by the end I definitely wanted to find out what happens next.

Reminds me a bit of the Wheel of Time series. Epic fantasy, with multiple interesting characters.
This was just such a fun fantasy book and I really really enjoyed it. It had some of my favourite elements, like royalty, forbidden love and an interesting magic system. Just a solid enjoyable four star read :D
This is the start of a cool YA fantasy! Loved getting to know our main characters as they begin their journeys. Looking forward to seeing how this plot unfolds in the next installment.
