Plot twist: this is a classic novel I enjoyed immensely .
Practically all my friends had read it back in elementary school, however, due to me having far less than ideal teachers, I never got the chance to read it till now. Only now have I realized what a major loss that was.
The Outsiders was way better than I thought it would be. My friends hyped me up for it but even then, I tried keeping my expectations low. I expected it to be some city version of [b:Lord of the Flies|7624|Lord of the Flies|William Golding|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327869409s/7624.jpg|2766512] (and dear God did I hate that novel) or for it to be like another novel I read for school years ago, [b:Maniac Magee|139463|Maniac Magee|Jerry Spinelli|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1395884800s/139463.jpg|3264295], but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Allow me to go through some of the main characters and their various plot points.

Rating is the same as it is every time I read this. I love this book. It's short and deep and precious and horribly sad and I just love it.
I was going to go deep into stuff but honestly there's not much more that needs to be said. This is still one of my favorites.

The Outsiders was one of the first books that made me actually enjoy reading! I remember reading this during class for 8th grade and was always itching to read ahead of where my class was. This book was life-changing for me along with S.E. Hinton's other book, that was then and this was now. From the first fight scene with the Socs to the final scene with Dallas, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I definitely had some favorite moments like when Ponyboy and Johnny were on the run and to the hospital scene where Johnny says, "Stay Gold Ponyboy." It was that moment that had me crying like a river. I enjoyed all the different emotions when reading The Outsiders and would recommend it for first-time readers!
