this was a really cute book. i wish we could have learned a little more about Jane's experiences with racism and homophobia, but i understand if the author didn't feel comfortable writing that. also not sure how i feel about the happy ending, like it's good don't get me wrong but it didn't really blow me away.. maybe I'm just a sucker for tragedies though haha.

This is probably my favorite wlw romance in awhile. It was so cute and emotional and just such an enjoyable read. The characters really made the book for me. They all felt so real, even the side characters felt well developed, and they all had such amazing and fun personalities. The romance was amazing and sweet plus the found family worked so well together.

This book made me laugh at some parts and cry at others. The emotions were on point throughout and I found myself really caring about all the characters and the main couple. The book was well written. The romance scenes were very sweet and the sex scenes were hot. I already find myself wanting to reread this book so I've already ordered my own physical copy of the book for my collection because I enjoyed it so much!

Really cute, wholesome romance! I was not expecting the magical realism which wasn’t my favorite but it worked. Also lots of deus ex machina that sometimes made the story feel middle grade but overall the characters were lovely, and the found family trope always gets me.

I absolutely loved this book and I want a Subway girlfriend. Also those spicy scenes were wonderful, just how I like them ;)

I so badly wanted to like this book. It was so hyped up but unfortunatel I struggled to read it.

Cons-  Jane had no agency, it seemed like she wasn't getting any say in how things went down and August didn't listen to what she had to say at times. There was also the white savior proble  of August trying to fix Jane's problem and telling her at one point that racism *isn't a problem anymore*(or a similar line to that). Which I found to be a disgusting statement considering current and past events. Additionally there were too many plot points that didn't make sense no matter how little I tried to think about it.  It may have been ok if I could've turned my brain off but unfortunately I could not. August was such a terrible character and I found the ending to be unrealistic in some ways. I also just couldn't wrap my head around August being able to ditch work and school for ages and a few other plot points that I won't include here because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone intending to read it. On a final point I found that the sci-fi elements didn't mix well with the contemporary parts of it which is what caused me to have all these issues with it in the first place.
OH YEA there's also that creepy kinda slut shaming bit about August KEEPING TRACK of Jane/Biyu previous partners and being very jealous about it. And also the narrorator and August disregarding the name change near the end of the book to Biyu even after telling her that she'llcall her whatever she wants!

Pro- I enjoyed her roommates significantly more than I liked August.

I can 100% see this book becoming a comfort read. I would love nothing more than to see it turned into a (really well done) movie. This book absolutely sucked me in. The friend group was well thought out. They didn’t feel thrown together or like background  noise. The setting was magical in every sense. Not to mention that I’m head over heels in love with Jane.
