THESE BOOKS HAVE CRACK COCAINE IN THEM

first read
"Nate had kissed him back, and it had been like kissing the sun."

why!! are!! these!! books!! so!! good!!
this wasn't as smutty as his boy next door, and i don't love nate and ewan as much as i love channon and jack, but i still really enjoyed it!! also loved getting a third person’s perspective of jack and channon’s relationship! i love them!!

Fun and sexy

I really enjoyed this. The brattiness did get frustrating sometimes though. But it was believable because it was largely related to one of the characters' personal issues. The stymied communication made me want to shake Ewan though. Overall the characters were interesting and the sexy times were really sexy. The author did a good job with world building, especially at the office. I do wish there was more insight into how this relationship played out at work, particularly how their colleagues will react to the boss dating his employer. I really hope that there will be more in this series.

I loved HBND where we first meet Nate and Ewan, but I was nervous about reading their story. Mostly because, while I love brats, Ewan seemed especially snarky and prickly and kind of unlikeable. It was part of the point I guess, that Jack and Channon don't see Ewan in the same light that Nate does. I was also nervous that Nate's level of sadism would be too much for me. From Channon's point of view, Nate seemed way too rough and sadistic. But that's because Channon isn't really a masochist. He just likes to suffer for his Sir.

Honestly, thhis book, it's actually a pretty slow burn. We don't get a lot of kink OR steamy scenes. It definitely reads like a romance versus an erotica which I don't mind. Nate only hurts Ewan to the extent that he wants to be hurt. Which is a lot, sure. But Nate also wants to daddy him (without that label) and coddle him and love on him. And it's adorable.

Feral

I was expecting to like Nate less than Jack, just by virtue of His Boy Next Door being one of my favorite reads this year, and Nate's sadism being an open ended question.

But, I was wrong, I like Nate and Ewan quite a bit. Ewan is jagged and bitey. Nate is a giant geek who loves Star Trek, programming, and punishing bratty behavior -- after he encourages it. They're so endearing. I'm basically sold on R. J. Moray at this point.

Heat: 4/5
Rating: 5/5

Notes: Sadism, masochism, Ewan does not follow s.s.c. with his hook-ups, bratty sub, public beating, flogging, impact play, caning, slapping, boot licking, mild humiliation, frot, oxford style, humbler, mention of shibari. Other things I may have forgotten, apologies, but I think I have it covered.

I was unsure about reading Nate & Ewan’s story because I was afraid it would be too sadistic for my taste. I was pleasantly surprised that it’s actually a bit of an angsty slow burn and more of a vanilla love story than I expected.

I was leary of reading this spin-off from "Becoming His Boy Next Door."(HBND) I like stories with Brats, but I tend to like Brats with a sweet element and not stubborn, willful and sometimes crude. Reading the original series I did not like Ewan at all. He annoyed the heck out of me and I put off reading these until my second read through of HBND. I'm glad I did read them and that I chose to read them after Season 3 of HBND. I just finished my second read through because they have been added as necessary to the whole feel of the Doms of Santa Rita world. My feelings on Ewan and Nate have changed after reading these and I appreciate them a whole lot better then I did before.

Ewan still annoys me. But... Knowing more about him tempers my feelings. These let the reader know why he is the way he is and what he wants and what he needs in a Dom. Nate is perfect for him. This is his first real long-term relationship as a Dom and he's learning as he goes. Ewan fights him because he has ideas from his past and he struggles to reconcile those with who Nate is and what Nate wants and needs from him. He struggles with how different Nate is from his previous Dom and Nate struggles to get him to communicate and understand how he is different. There is a lot of stubborness and push and pull in this series.

This first Volume is a good introduction Nate and Ewan as Main Characters. I love seeing their relationship develop and events unfolf from their POV. With HBND we see what Jack and Channon think and how they feel. It's a great contrast to see another side of events.

I love how these books flow along the same timeline as HBND up to the end of Season 3 without being over repetitive. So ofter differing viewpoints get to bee too much but Nate and Ewan are so different from Channon and Jack that what they think and feel about events and people is unique to them.  Another thing that is great is that there isn't a lot of extra when it comes to some events. For instance when Channon Meets Nate for the first time. We are told the specifics in the HBND series so the mentions of that in these book is Nate's viewpoint into what he thinks of Channon and everything as a whole instead of the fine details.
