I don't really know how to rate this book--there were some beautiful passages, especially in the part about her brother--but the rest of it felt detached and cold and sometimes very privileged.

I nearly stopped reading this book because it starts out slow at first, but I’m SO glad I kept going. Once the author began telling stories of oil and gas extraction and local activism, I was hooked. Highly recommend for those interested in environmentalism and spiritualism, and how those two topics relate to public lands and oil and gas extraction.

I found this book surprisingly dark and heavy. I read it very slowly, over some months because many times as I was reading, I would have to put it down to digest what I had just read or because it made me so sad.

Content warning that there is a pretty detailed section on the cremation of someone, for those who are squeamish.
