While I felt fairly meh about the first 2/3 of this book and almost stopped reading, I really loved the last third. What an incredibly touching testament to the love between a father and a daughter. And if you read this book before Emma Straub added her essay to the end about her own father, you should absolutely read it now.

I had to give this 5 stars because I'm a sucker for time travel, and because I could not put this book down. This book kept surprising me! I thought I knew what was going to happen, but I didn't, or it would happen in a slightly different way. It really kept me on my toes.
Also, I appreciated that the time travel was explained and then not elaborated on too much. I tend to not like it when stories focus too much on the science/angst of time travel. In this book, the time travel is introduced and then it's just there, and you have to take it for granted without thinking too hard about it (like, what happens to the other timelines Alice wakes up in? Alice thinks about it for about a minute and then we move on. It doesn't really matter).

4.75 stars - i really enjoyed this one!! some things i loved: the magical realism, the setting of New York, the exploration of alice’s relationship with her dad, alice’s friendship with sam, how the author explores how different decisions affect our life and how some decisions really may not make a difference no matter how much we want them to. the ending also pulled at my heart strings
Nothing really made this book super amazing, but i did enjoy listening to it. This is one you could zone out a tich, and get right back in.
