This book is fine. I like reading from Mark’s perspective way more than Kate’s. Mark is dealing with the fact that he’s in love with a boy who will never love him but wants to be best friends still and the emotions and feeling he has is so true to a real teenager! Everything seems to be the end of the world! Kate is dealing with anxiety about college and how she is unsure what she wants to do with her life which is all valid, but in my opinion she puts herself in situations to make herself sadder on purpose. Almost self sabotage in a way and it’s unlikable. They both go through great growth and learn about themselves which is really refreshing! All in all, a good read.

I quite liked this - the sweet and poetic writing/characters, how comfortable they are as queer (just remembering back to my high school days when only one kid in my school was out, but thank god times are slowly changing) - though I did find a couple things hard to believe, just had to say whatever. Like being in complete love with someone you've never even talked to, just heard about. And yknow it was quite full of teens feeling dramatic (they are self aware though). Anyhoo fast and sweet read, I really liked it and I want to read more by these authors.

I mean this as both a compliment and a read, this is the exact type of book I would’ve loved as a closeted high school senior/freshly out college frosh

Emotional storyline. I was rooting for Mark but the outcome was realistic so I'm okay with it. I love how he and Kate became friends.
The growth of the characters over the course of the story. That is the thing that really draws me to YA. I just love seeing that change, the glimmer of maturity and insight into their being.
This book definitely had that in spades and not just with the main characters either. The secondary characters were just as important and significant to the story and I was just as invested in their lives.
David Levithan is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Meh. I love David Levithan, but this one was too melodramatic for me from the get-go. I got to about 2/3 of the way through the book and just wasn't really too emotionally invested. I would have liked if the romances were more drawn out instead of happening in a snap/not happening all.
