Amazing! Don't read at night. Don't normally read thrillers but this is so good!

A book has never stayed on my mind as much as Verity. I’ve loved every other book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover, but this is just a completely different genre, and she did amazing. She created a story that makes you think you know it all, and then makes you question everything. I couldn’t put it down, I read it in one sitting. The way that it gives you a little bit of information then switches point of views just makes you HAVE to keep reading because you are dying to know what happens and how it finishes.
The more I think back, the more I doubt both the manuscript and the letter, and that’s what I love about this book. The autobiography was sickening, and I can’t imagine ever writing about your own children like that, author or not. There are things that point to both being true. Hopefully in September when the new edition is released, we will get some closure. Every character had something… off. Jeremy’s story didn’t add up, verity’s went don’t know is true, and the way lowen became obsessive with jeremy was in the same sense as “fictional” verity.

This book was kinda creepy. Don’t read this before bed I beg you. I definitely struggled on how to rate this book because I’m still on the fence of whether I liked it or hated it. I was mind bending. If you plan to read this try to go into it with little to no context, but please please please read the content warnings!!! It’s super important for this one.

SO GOOD. im not kidding when i tell you that i could not put this book down. wasn’t as scary as people said it was. please check tws before reading!!

verity being able to actually walk was not at all surprising to me. lowen in this story is crazy. with her bitting the exact same marks as verity did, putting the pillow below her hips (pg 268 if you’re confused), and EATING verity’s letter?? the letter at the end has me a bit confused on whether i’m team manuscript or team letter.

edit: after having some time to think about it, im team manuscript. here’s my reasons:

1) in verity’s letter, she said that she only told crew to hold his breathe once they were already in the water. it doesn’t make sense to me that her first instinct was to speak and not to attempt to float to the surface. also she never said that she told harper to hold her breathe so it’s a possibility that verity actually killed her.

2) no mother could ever write about them killing and abusing their children if they really loved them.

3) crew was still afraid of verity even after  her accident. if the manuscript was all fake and verity didn’t abuse her children, why would he be scared of his own mother?

4) how could crew “accidentally” cut himself on the chin? he could have been curious about it but also verity could have been the one trying to slit his throat before he started screaming. crew was never exposed to violence so i don’t think he was pretending to be a fictional killer or villain.

Omg the ending ????? I feel like it was kind of contrived & a lot of the ~intimate~ scenes were gratuitous, weird and/or unnecessary. Fun & quick read though!
